New Tamil-language video on Jaffna Diabetic Centre & home gardening project highlights some of the important efforts of IMHO in bringing quality health care and promoting the overall well being of persons in Northern Sri Lanka.

In commemoration of International Women's Day on March 8th, trishaws were handed over to a group of women who received vocational and skills training. These women are not only empowered to now provide for themselves and their families, they are also breaking down gender stereotypes and norms in the process.

As part of IMHO's efforts to rebuild livelihoods in the resettled areas of Northern Sri Lanka, an egg incubator (the first of its kind in the Vanni) was earlier donated. Now, the first few eggs have hatched!

Following the devastation caused by Cyclone Thane in January, IMHO supported emergency relief efforts for survivors in the districts of Karaikal and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, Southern India.

Filling in the gaps in health care systems in Sri Lanka remains one of our top priorities. Provisions of medical equipments, such as calf compressors to benefit post-op patients, help to improve care and build the capacity of our partners to save and better countless patients' lives.

IMHO volunteers have been working over the past year in developing a clinical psychology program at Gondar University in Ethiopia and training much needed mental health workers. A report summarizing these efforts is now available.

IMHO is proud to announce our next major initiative for the 2011-2012 year--the establishment of a modern NICU at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital...help us to fund the first 2 phases of this important project today!

One of the most acute needs in the resettled areas of Sri Lanka is that of rehabilitating the local educational infrastructure. IMHO has helped to supply students with notebooks, book bags, school supplies, and bicycles, as well as helping to fund after-school tuition centers.
