IMHO held a very successful dance and light music function as a fundraiser on September 20th, at Plainsboro High School Auditorium in Central New Jersey. The event was organized by Balan Kugabalan and Dr. Sujanthy Rajaram who invited participation from students of several local dance and music teachers. The main attraction was the well-known, talented Sri Lankan singer and musician, Mr. C.S. Ainkaran. He was accompanied by Anitha Krishna. The young artists, ten groups in all, entertained the audience with their dance programs, instrumental pieces, and vocal performances from 4pm to 6pm. They were so enthusiastic that they were performing for a worthy cause. This was followed by a short break for dinner, with food catered by Annapurani. Mr. Ainkaran‘s music was very well-received by all. He sang songs of his choice, in addition to taking requests from the audience. Everyone enjoyed the evening so much that no one minded the extra hours that the program took to finish. The hall was fully packed with about 700 guests, and IMHO collected a net sum of $38,400. One person deserving special recognition is 8-year-old Sweda who baked cookies at home and sold enough to raise $50. The proceeds will support IMHO-sponsored projects at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. |
