IMHO held a dinner fundraiser for its Midwest supporters on December 6, 2008 at Amar India restaurant in Dayton, Ohio. Many caring physicians, pharmaceutical representatives, and other well-wishers participated in the meeting even in the midst of the region’s first snow storm. Dr. Thambipillai's presentation of the project on the cardiac catheterization unit for the Jaffna General Hospital was very well received. With no such care available for heart patients in the North who are in need of a number of procedures, patients must either make the arduous journey to Colombo with the help of the ICRC (the lucky few), or else not receive the treatment they so desperately need. Thanks to the generous donations of our thoughtful donors, IMHO was able to raise over $10,000 that night, with a few donations still expected to arrive shortly. At the end of the meeting, the group was also able to discuss future events in the Midwest region. We are still in need of a few more members to provide their input on future events and possible venues. But for now, thanks to all who supported this effort, we have moved one step closer to achieving our goal. As one supporter stated, “Wow! A cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital…a dream come true to many heart patients.” |
