Jaffna Amputee Rehab
This 29-minute documentary entitled "Beacon of Hope" chronicles the work of the Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation (JJCDR). The JJCDR is the only center providing prosthetic, orthotic devices, and orthopedic services in the Jaffna peninsula for over two decades. Also, the center provides mobility devices, physiotherapy services, microcredit loans, and student educational grants to the differently abled in our midst. The organization's mission is to reach out to people with limb loss/physical disabilites and empower them through a total rehabilitation program to restore their dignity, rights, and recognition. Cardiac Catheterization LabThis English-language video entitled "Hope in the Horizon" was produced in Jaffna and describes the need for a cardiac facility at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. IMHO is working with other international non-governmental organizations to raise funds for the construction of this facility.
Prenatal Nutrition IntroductionThis Tamil-language video from Jaffna documents the work done through IMHO's sponsorship of a nutrition program for underweight pregnant women. The video includes footage from classes conducted for nurses/midwives and for the expectant mothers on how to properly utilize the nutrition supplements. At the end, several beneficiaries of the program are interviewed.
Prenatal Nutrition Follow-UpNew mothers who benefited during their pregnancy from the nutritional supplementation provided by IMHO are interviewed along with their family members in this Tamil-language documentary.
Mosquito Borne-IllnessesThis video on mosquito-borne disease is a Tamil-language production of Jaffna Teaching Hospital. It details the scourge of mosquito-borne illness.
HypertensionOne of the world's silent killers, this Tamil language video explains hypertension (high blood pressure) in a simple manner that any patient can understand.
DiabetesDiabetes is fast becoming one of the world's great health epidemics. The increasing prevalence of diabetes in populations adapting a Western lifestyle can be seen even in Jaffna, and this Tamil-language patient education video shows several examples of the heavy toll this disease takes on everyday people.
April 2008 TV InterviewThis Tamil-language group interview was broadcast on Toronto-based television channel TVi in April 2008 prior to the IMHO fundraising event entitled "Nalam KaappOm", which benefited the IMHO Prenatal Nutrition Project. Participants in the interview program include the IMHO president and several IMHO Canada board members.
2005 Tsunami ReliefThis documentary from 2005 follows a team of IMHO doctors who provided direct relief in North-East Sri Lanka following the devastating December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
