EffortsEmergency care, like a lot of other specialty fields, is often highly underdeveloped in developing countries and impoverished regions. In Sri Lanka, IMHO supported an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and provided much needed oxygen equipment. Regular access to medicines was also a major problem in Sri Lanka during times of conflict, when shortages were frequent. In order to address the ongoing medication needs of the patients in these areas, IMHO supported many efforts to provide patients in need with their medications. Ambulance transportation can be the difference between life and death, especially in rural or remote areas. In such places, with limited transportation options, families must often decide between accepting the risk of transporting an acutely ill patient on a motorcycle, or forgoing care altogether. To-date IMHO has provided 6 ambulances in Sri Lanka. |
